Founded more than six decades ago by New Zealand racing driver Bruce McLaren, McLaren has gone from being a small racing outfit and Formula 1 team to a titan of motorsport. It combines this pedigree with hyper-advanced road-car engineering – it’s also the creator of incredible supercars such as the McLaren F1.
Why does your warranty matter?
Given the prestige of this marque, there are various reasons why, if you’re lucky enough to own a McLaren model, the warranty is incredibly important. For a start, the brand’s precision engineering means a warranty offers protection from the high repair bills of complex mechanical and electrical issues.
Significant failures involving parts such as suspension struts, catalytic converters or gearboxes regularly top £10,000. The factory or extended warranty covers both replacement parts and the highly specialist labour costs involved in such complex repairs.
What’s more, the terms of the warranty require the use of genuine McLaren parts to maintain integrity and performance. At the same time, only expert, properly trained and qualified technicians at certified retailers and service centres work on your vehicle.
New McLarens typically come with a three-year, unlimited mileage (for most models) comprehensive factory warranty. And you can extend this for up to 12 or 15 years depending on what model you have and its age. Not only that, it covers nearly all electrical and mechanical parts.
Almost all factory-fitted electrical and mechanical components are fixed with genuine parts at certified service centres. However, there are certain exclusions, including standard wear-and-tear parts such as brake discs and pads, tyres and wiper blades, and windscreens, which are not covered.
Finally, a transferable official warranty or McLaren-qualified pre-owned coverage means your supercar will have far more appeal to private buyers in the secondary market.
